Parents and Student,

Your student will be swimming for the next nine weeks.  Swimming is part of the curriculum at the middle school, just like all other classes, and is required.  They are gaining a valuable lifetime activity and fitness program to enhance their physical fitness levels.  Students will be instructed in swimming skills, diving, lap swimming, lifesaving/guarding techniques and swimming activities.  Students will only be excused with a parent/guardian note from home, stating why the student is not participating that day.  If the student will need to miss 3 or more days, a doctor’s note will need to be sent in with the student.  Girls will be given a seven day(weekend included) excusable allowance a month for their menstruation.  After this allotted time, a doctor’s note is needed.

Required Swimsuit/Towel

The swimsuit should be appropriate for class.  The suit should follow the school rules as it pertains to language and dress code.  Swimsuits maybe two piece in nature but judgment should be followed.  All swimsuits and towels will be taken home daily as there is no locker space to keep overnight.  NO hairdryers or electrical appliances are allowed in the locker rooms.  Due to the water on the floor, serious consequences could arise.

Grades

Each student will start the nine weeks with 100 points.  As long as they dress and participate each day and there are no deductions, they will have 100 points at the end of the grading period.  I do not grade on how good a swimmer the student is, just on how they participate and try their best.

Deductions

3 pts… Not dressed with no written excuse.

3 pts….Dressed, but not participating in class.

3 pts to 6 pts….Rules violation of school or pool rules
